How to Deal with Emergency Dental

People go to a dentist’s office for various reasons. With that, the dentist will provide different treatment, maintenance, cosmetic or preventive methods, or degree of care. Dentist appointments are scheduled ahead most of the time. However, there is a crisis that cannot wait for the next day or weeks and you need relief immediately. When you have a case of emergency dental care, it will have you running towards your dentist’s office, the nearest emergency or hospital to seek medical care and attention.

When is it considered an emergency dental?

There are a lot of situations that could fall into the category of emergency dental. You might need an emergency dental if:

Z
There is facial and gum swelling
Z
Accidents that knocked-out your teeth
Z
Bleeding or trauma that’s affecting the mouth
Z
Accidents that caused your tooth to misalign or loosen out
Z
Severe dental pain on your jaw, gum, fractured or cracked teeth, or mouth

Any form of tissue injury is considered an emergency dental. Tissue injuries are injuries inside your mouth like lacerations, tears, and punctured wounds to your tongue, cheeks, lips, and mouth. It is with utmost urgency that you get immediate treatment for any of the emergency mentioned above cases. This way, you get a high chance of saving your tooth, stop bleeding, and take away the pain you’re going through.

But you also have to deal with other emergency dental with the same urgency, and that is an abscess or severe infection in your mouth. Your dentist may either refer you to see an endodontist or personally perform a root canal. This will create an opening to drain the abscess. Contact your dentist immediately or an emergency care at the hospital if your dentist can’t be reached.

When does it not become an emergency dental?

There are things you have to remember if you are not sure whether your situation needs immediate dentist’s attention or it can wait a few hours or days.

When there’s no bleeding from your mouth
If your gums do not swell or bulge or have no knots
When you don’t feel severe pain
If you are not hit in your mouth or face
If your tooth is intact
Do you know you can avoid an Emergency dental?

Keeping a healthy mouth, teeth, and gums is an assurance that your teeth are healthy and won’t decay easily. The only way you can achieve good dental hygiene is by visiting your dentist regularly.
